How can we react when an injustice has been experienced? What options for action are there and what are the factors to consider? Do I have the courage to act? What am I supposed to do anyway?
The gggfon addresses these and similar questions in the form of civil courage courses. Young people and adults should find the courage to show civil courage. It is about discovering injustices and acting in accordance with one's own options — and not about uncompromising action.
We address three types of action with civil courage or social courage:
Intervening on behalf of others (usually in unforeseen situations)
Advocate yourself (for general values, especially in organized contexts)
Defending yourself (e.g.: against physical attacks, bullying or injustice; standing by yourself and your convictions)
The aim of the courses is for participants to get to know tools in a protected setting with which they can... correctly assess situations... help without endangering themselves and others unnecessarily... know ways to behave appropriately... gain respect without using force themselves... say “stop” when necessary. By playing theatre sequences (sometimes with actors — depending on the assignment), these options for action can be developed and tested in a protected manner.
